Principal's Greeting

SHENZHEN OASIS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to Shenzhen Oasis International School, anHelen Swan+ps+2400x3000_副本.jpg exclusive Middle School which has grown out of Green Oasis School and caters specifically for the needs of students aged 11 to 14 years of age. Situated in center of one of the most vibrant cities in China, the school is close to metro and bus routes as well as the Hong Kong border.

SOIS offers a UK based education which has been enhanced to meet the needs of our students. Mathematics and Chinese language are taught by highly experienced local teachers following the Chinese National Curriculum in these subjects. SOIS understands the significance of preparing our young people to have a global perspective and experience internationalism while still celebrating the importance of the culture and language of China. We believe it is vital for our cohort to have a strong native language and sense of belonging. It is also important for our international students to understand the culture and country in which they live.

To that end we aim for every child to be bilingual, being proficient in both English and Chinese and thus truly able to experience and immerse themselves in the best that the East and West have to offer. As part of the Oasis Group of Schools SOIS aims for academic excellence. Our Vision:

EDUCATE         NURTURE         INSPIRE EXCELLENCE

is at the heart of all we do at the School and all our programmes both academic and extra-curricular stem from them.

As SOIS is part of the Oasis School Group and I am fortunate enough to be Principal of both Green Oasis School and Shenzhen Oasis International School.  At SOIS Mr. Peter Garnhum is the Vice Principal-Academics and Ms. Alessa Tang is the Vice Principal-Administration. They manage highly qualified teams of both overseas and local staff to ensure all students are getting the best of both worlds. We are fortunate to have a very stable teaching and support staff and have been able to recruit specialist teachers from China and abroad for this academic year.

The school will continue to strive to build on the curriculum and ensure students have the skills and knowledge they need to go forward into their senior years of study no matter if they choose IGCSE/A Levels, IB Diploma, US AP’s or any other curriculum offered by their host country.

Although SOIS is a dedicated middle school, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on the school’s past and future. We are proud of the past academic achievements of our students, when GOS and SOIS was the same school, and of the progress they made at all stages of their education. This inspiring of excellence has not stopped and the same level of care and commitment continues to be shown by all our staff.

To ensure we can quantify our students learning, SOIS students take both internal and external assessments throughout the year. Using an external provider allows the school to compare the achievements of our students with others using the same curriculum and of the same age. Our results consistently put our students in the higher brackets for mathematics and at or above in the use of English as a First Language. The results for English are outstanding considering our students are mainly second language learners of English.

We are equally proud of our extensive range of activities for students outside the classroom. Students are given a choice of a wide range of opportunities in sports, arts and community service which enhance the formal curriculum. This includes academic competitions, excursions, special subject focus days and performance based activities. We promote a holistic approach to education where students are encouraged to be involved outside the classroom and to reach their full potential in all they do. Students from GOS/SOIS go on to study at top schools and then onto first class universities around the world including Oxford and Cambridge.

To support the above Shenzhen Oasis has both EAL and Learning Support departments. These give opportunities for each student to flourish through building on their learning experiences in significant ways. We ensure that we cater for individual student abilities and learning styles through a method called differentiation. We aim to ensure that each student has the means to maximize their true potential in a meaningful and supportive context. The school also takes its nurturing role seriously with a full time counselor to assist students and their families.

If you would like to know more about SOIS, please contact the school for further information and book a time to see for yourselves the excellent work being achieved by our students. We look forward to working with students, parents and teachers in creating an exciting future for this truly unique and inspiring school.

I hope you enjoy learning about the school and we look forward to celebrating our achievements with you on our website. Please feel free to visit often as the site will be updated regularly. Thank you.
